Jacob Hull Remembered After Fatal Incident At Butte County Library In Chico On Monday Evening

Jacob Hull, 46, died after a sudden incident inside the Butte County Library in Chico during a Monday evening visit with a young child.

Emergency dispatchers received the first 911 call at 5:12 p.m., and officers arrived in less than two minutes as patrons sought safety.

By 5:16 p.m., officers had detained the suspect and ended the immediate danger, while investigators later reported eight rounds discharged during the event.

The child who accompanied Hull sustained injuries from flying debris and received urgent care at a local hospital before being released.

Police Chief Billy Aldridge credited the rapid response with helping protect others inside the library, while county leaders announced plans to add security personnel across library locations.

Local detectives and the FBI Sacramento Field Office continue to review surveillance footage, speak with witnesses, and seek information through the Chico Police Department at 530-897-4911.

Family members will announce obituary, funeral, and memorial service details at a later time as the community honors Jacob Hull’s memory.
